Project 52

p52_100x126

I just signed up to take part in Project 52. For those who don’t know what it is about:

“Project52 is a personal challenge geared toward getting fresh content on your website. The goal is to write at least 1 new article per week for 1 year. Because we all know what it‘s like to procrastinate on our content. A website is not just a fresh design that can be uploaded to the web and forgotten about!”

I just thought it was a good idea. Plus it’ll make me feel like I should post on this blog more often which is something I have wanted to make time to do for a while now.

I think the easiest way for me to do this would be to set some sort of  4 week rotation structure that I will (try to) keep to. For now I’m thinking something like this:

  1. Inspiration – websites/portfolios/a certain piece of work/etc.
  2. Web Design Resource – could be web tools, brushes, whatever else I can think of.
  3. Something I have yet to decide – any suggestions?
  4. What I have done this month – any work I have done, university/dissertation progress, etc.

I want to try and keep this blog aimed towards web design and development with a little bit of my personal life in there (and thats why I’ve limited to talking about my own work to once a month). Any suggestions on what to fill the last post with would be appreciated!

If your interested to see how long I can keep up a post per week before falling behind (I expect it will happen at one point during the year, but maybe not) or if your just interested in web design then feel free to follow my RSS feed or follow me on twitter.

  1. From a SEO point of view, there is nothing better than periodically changing content. Also, after a couple of months, your blog will look a lot better with loads of content in it. So yeah, keep it going and i’ll join ya in February 2010 :)

  2. In February? Whats wrong with January? :p

I know that it’s good for SEO to keep updating a website, but thats not really the main reason I want to do this. I’ve started blogs before and not updated them for so long they become redundant and I don’t really want that to happen to this one (partly because it’s connected to my portfolio…).

  3. Well i will focus on uni stuff till 15th Jan. Then i’ll have to finish my new website and then hopefully launch it on 1st Feb. And after that i’m planning to keep writing blog entries like you’ll do.

  4. Ah, I see :)

Yeah, I probably will be concentrating on uni stuff till the 15th too (getting stuff finished to hand in). So far it’s just XML that I’ve finished. The rest I’ve barely started.

  5. Same old, same here. (add that XML to the non-finished stuff, but it won’t take too long.)

  6. Good luck with this Nick.
I’m suffering from a chronic case of blogger’s block at the moment, so I know this little challenge could prove difficult.

  7. Hi,

Don’t be Negative you will be able to do this easy. The post per week that is. Have you came up with an idea for #3 yet?

  8. @ Tom – thanks :) I always suffer a chronic case of blogger block…I just needed some motivation.

@Sami – I decided that I’d just write random things for that one. Probably mostly discussions about different things to do with web design – bits of code, techniques, etc. as that was what I wanted this blog to be for in the first place.

  9. Hey Nick,

For #3 – Write about the many benefits that hiring a professional developer has over the DIY methods.

Another thing, in order to complete Project 52 successfully you’ll want to have at least several articles set aside to fall back on. Life is full of surprises and it helps to be prepared. Good luck!!

  10. Hmmm, I might do that one time, I’ll see. I have a few ideas for things already that I should probably write down somewhere otherwise I’m likely to forget them. I’ll probably write a few out as drafts sometime if I get some spare time.

    Thanks for the suggestion :)
