March – a Productive Month

I’ve been pretty busy this month with university and other bits and pieces I’ve been doing.

Freelance Work

The Jed Davis Song Foundrywww.jeddavis.com

Jed Davis is a musician that contacted me through my portfolio to turn his design into a WordPress theme that he could use on his site. I have to say it’s one of the best WordPress themes (coding wise) that I have created so far.

After creating the theme and showing Jed he then pointed out a number of tweeks that he wanted me to make, and so I did them too. He was very specific on what he wanted (which is a great thing!) and simply needed someone to turn his idea into a functioning theme – which I did.

Other Bits and Pieces

As usual I’ve been doing freelance work for regular clients – mainly small edits.

Mainly its been:

  • WordPress Theme edits
  • HTML/CSS site edits

A few of the sites I’ve been working on are Madonna Fans and Decent Comedy.

Other Work

This Site (my portfolio)

I’ve done a few edits to this site (although you might not notice them) to make it run a bit smoother. I still need to make the same edits to the WordPress theme that this blog uses, but thats just a copy and paste job…

I’ve also installed a few more WordPress plugins (although I don’t know if I will keep them). One is a “related posts” plugin (as you can see at the bottom of any post) and the other was a “make your blog look good on an iPhone” plugin (but I may disable this one as I’m not that bothered about it).

University

University is going pretty well. I still need to start the video that I have to make for one of my modules, but I have all the footage I need (I think) so it shouldn’t be that bad.

Honours Project

If you’ve been reading the posts I make here then you will likely know how I’m doing with my honours project.

So far I have made 5 out of the 6 applications that I need to make and have some criteria (although its not finalised yet) to compare them. It’s coming along pretty nicely and I hope to get it finished as soon as I can, but it is this last application that is going to be the most annoying one to make (its in Flash – I don’t like using Flash to say the least).

You can have a look at the applications so far (assuming you have an up-to-date browser that allows HTML5 and have the silverlight plugin installed) here.

A Few Grades

I received a few more grades back earlier this month:

  • Project Presentation number 2: A19
  • Essay about the “social and political issues in web design today”: B15

I was pretty happy with those grades, considering I don’t think I am very good at writing essays a B15 was a pretty good grade, and an A19 for my presentation was great!

Next Month

As I said last month I want to get my business card sorted and get some printed, but its not really high priority right now.

I think I will be working a lot on my honours project and other university work this coming month (as it’s nearing the end now), but will more than likely do some odd bits of work here and there as they come to me.
